“Get away, Bees! That’s MY red juice!” - Gabe Morbeck, commenting on the problems of eating breakfast al fresco.
Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000 - Morning breaks and I’m the first one up (as usual). For the third straight day I take a peaceful cruise alone out on Lake Absegami, this time venturing rather close to the dam to see if there are any dangerous currents there. When boys wake up we all eat day old Wawa donuts and Red Juice. This combination proves irresistible to the resident honeybees who continually plague us looking for their little sugar fix. The boys and I all take one final canoe ride around the lake, my passengers all increasing the chief paddler’s workload by continually dragging their hands in the water. We pack up the van and get an early start back to Rutledge - I had always budgeted this day of our vacation as a home improvement day, and the expensive Anderson windows for the third floor are subconsciously calling me to be picked up from Home Dee-Do.
